Yesterday evening I went to a pre-Christmas social in Cheltenham. So far, so seasonal. But it was so much more than that. Here are three reasons why.
Lacey Thayer CIC
The evening was hosted by Lacey Thayer CIC, which helps businesses to develop, manage and communicate their corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities. Thinking back to the purpose of Connecting Gloucestershire, it was great to see a CIC not only recognising the importance of collaboration between business and the community but getting out there and helping to make the vision a reality.
Nikki is a professional triathlete, sponsored by Lacey Thayers. She talked to us about her journey to date and what an extraordinary one it was! It was inspirational to hear from someone so driven, passionate and committed. She was an example to us all and a reminder about how hard work pays off.
The evening was held in aid of DEBRA, a charity that supports people with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) and their families. If you don’t know what EB is, you’re far from alone. DEBRA describes it as “the worst condition you’ve never heard of”. It’s a group of genetic skin conditions which cause the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch. This video explains more – and is a humbling example of the strength of the human spirit in adversity.
So all in all, as I settle down to work this morning I’m feeling full of motivation and inspiration!
